Everyone is so taken with what is happening on the red carpet and on the stage when it comes to the Academy Awards, that we give little thought to what is going on behind the scenes. It’s interesting to note that stars are not carried around by bodyguards and they do not sit on gilded thrones while waiting for their names to be called in awe.
In the Back
Behind the scenes at the Academy Awards looks like a well-dressed party in a construction warehouse, but the workers are A-list past and present Academy Award winners. Presenters stand in their couture gowns, surrounded by tattood crew in their peak caps and jeans, with earpieces and note pads. Believe it or not, but backstage at the Oscars is actually the place to be.
Lady Gaga is the new Madonna, coffee is the new cellulite cream and vegan is the new Kabbalah. The latest food fad to pass through Hollywood’s elite circles, this compassionate diet and its diet bars are the order of the day for health-conscious celebrities who care about the environment. And as is expected of award season’s biggest events, the Oscars will be catering to the special dietary needs of its stars.
Even the Oscars Has Gone Vegan
There will be a strong focus on vegan menus at this year’s post-Oscars ball according to master chef Wolfgang Puck. Besides the signature Oscar fare of chicken pot pie with shaved black truffles, mini Kobe burgers, and Tuna Nicoise, celebs can look forward to sinking their teeth into Pucks’s mouthwatering vegan-inspired low fat snacks, which include pizza, kale salad with grilled artichoke and a beet salad with spiced walnut.
Better known as the guy who produced epic series such as ‘Family Guy’ and ‘American Dad,’ Seth McFarlane is not well known by name, which comes as a bit of a surprise when he was recently chosen to host the upcoming 2013 Academy Awards.
And the Oscar Goes to
Over the years the Oscars have never strayed too far from their comfortable favourites such as Billy Crystal, but they have since decided that in order to draw younger viewers back to the movie making awards, they need to remove the comfort seat belt and go out there with younger hosting talent. The 2012 Academy Awards were somewhat lukewarm in reception with James Franco and Anne Hathaway hosting. Regardless of the reception there was a clear indication that with the better sound with AV equipment hire, more contemporary stage designs, younger hosts and a bigger variety of nominated movies, younger people were more interested.
As more of the world’s eyes turn to Malta as one of the most popular tourist and investment destinations, Malta pulls out another great event to draw more tourists and film investment. The European Film Awards will be held in Malta from 1st December and in anticipation of the great event, the Malta Film Commission has decided to screen an epic 83-year-old war drama titled ‘Tell England,’ on 11th November 2012 at the Mediterranean Conference Centre.
Filming in Malta
‘Tell England’ holds significance for Malta as it’s amongst the first films to be filmed on Malta. Filming on the stunning Mediterranean island began in 1925 and the country has become extremely popular with international directors and producers. After sifting through the film archives, as enthusiasm for the European Film Awards mounts, the film commission found that the very first film to be shot in Malta was ‘Sons of the Sea’ in 1925.
The 2012 Primetime Emmy Awards gave its audience a sample taste of what goes on behind the velvet curtain of this major celebrity event. Coverage of the red carpet was dominated by the E! Entertainment team, who pulled out some unusual entertainment technology to add to their impressive audio visual installation kit. Prepare to be amazed!
At the 2009 Emmy Awards, E! first introduced the highly popular ‘glam cam,’ which features a state-of-the-art camera that captures seamless 360 degree footage of celebrities in their meticulous (or sometimes not so meticulous) red carpet outfits. The matrix-styled camera has since become standard procedure at high-profile award shows, joining the rest of E!’s high tech on-site recording equipment.
Two of our favourite stars, Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds took their steamy love affair to the altar, and made headlines with their surprise wedding. Gossip Girl’s Blake Lively and Hollywood hunk Ryan Reynolds wed in a surprise ceremony in Charleston, S.C, and it’s been the hot topic on everyone’s lips. Everyone wants to know about the wedding, the dress and the shoes. Blake is known to have a love for Christian Louboutin shoes, and has needed bulk shoe hangers to house her many pairs of stunning heels. The question is did Christian Louboutin design her shoes? And who designed the dress? The Chatterfest team finds out.
The Grammy Awards have come and gone, eyes are now on what made the night special. One such occurrence will no doubt spawn many copycat pranks as Deadmau5, with a Grammy Awards nomination for best dance recording, decided to give fellow DJ Skrillex a few thousand calls; although he would not need to pick up the phone once. Deadmau5 strutted onto the red carpet wearing his iconic mouse helmet, but the main attraction was his shirt and the numbers emblazed on it. ‘U Mad Bro?’ with a single telephone number spelled the death of Skrillex’s phone as his personal number made its way into the public domain via the 53rd Grammy Awards live feed.. Skrillex tweeted, “Haha @deadmau5 just wore my phone number on his [expletive] shirt on tv gotta retire this phone.” The number has since been disconnected. Deadmau5 has been a driving influence on DJ fashion, his iconic mouse hat and his fondness for combat trousers have made the man literally impossible to not recognise; beware of imitations however.
Mid-January and we’re already in full awards season. With the People’s Choice Awards behind us and the recent third time stint as host by Ricky Gervais at the Golden Globes, celebrity news is about to roll in fast. UK and US celebrity news however tends to report superficial rumours and other impractical stories, today we’ll look at something a little more tangible. The fashion styles and trends that we’ve seen emerging so far and what we can expect leading up to the Oscars is the goal and we’re going to kick off with who was best dressed at the People’s Choice Awards.

The Royal Caribbean Cruises luxury liner has the prestigious honour of being not only the world’s premiere celebrity cruise ship, they are also (again) the recipient of a few awards given to them by Travel Weekly at the Readers Choice awards.
